M-PWR® HR Overview
The M-PWR Historical Repository (MPWR-HR) is a SAS-based application which
provides IT organizations with a multi-platform trending and historical data
base solution for performance management, capacity planning and accounting and
chargeback data. The system utilizes Merrill Consultants' MXG software to
provide support for several hundred data sources. MPWR-HR can also easily
integrate user developed SAS data files into the historical repository.
M-PWR® HR Features
The application runs on OS/390, z/OS, z/VM, UNIX and Windows NT operating
systems. The data base structure provides multiple levels of summarization as
follows:
- Detail
- Summary (Hourly)
- Weekly
- Monthly
- Audit (Tape)
- Weekly History (Tape)
- Monthly History (Tape)
Supported Data Sources
MPWR-HR has predefined support for many data sources including:
- CICS
- DB2
- Batch Programs and Jobs
- TSO Sessions
- Started Tasks
- IDMS
- Print
- DASD Data Sets and Volumes
- Tape Data Sets and Volumes
- RMF
- TSO/MON
- NetView
- UNIX
- NT
Additional Features
- Centralized or Distributed Data Bases
Each HR data base can be implemented on OS/390, z/OS, z/VM, UNIX, NT or any
combination. All data can be stored in 1 or more centralized data bases or
the data bases can be distributed. Financial, performance and capacity
planning data can be stored on the platform of your choice an the location
of your choice.
- Trending and Historical Data Base
Provides DETAIL, SUMMARY, WEEKLY and MONTHLY summarization levels.
- MXG Interface
Standard interface for all data sources supported by MXG software.
- User Defined Data Retention Requirements
Allows up to 99 cycles of each file at each level of summarization.
- SAS Data Compression
Supports optional file compression each level of summarization, on an
individual file level. Work files can also be optionally compressed.
- Multiple Work File Support
Multiple work file support is available for each file. These work files can
be optionally compressed. This is essential for processing large volumes of
data from sources such as CICS, IDMS and DB2.
- Automatic Retrofit of Files
Changes to the structure of files are very easy since MPWR-HR automatically
retrofits any Week-to-Date or Month-To-Date files that are not correctly
sorted or summarized due to changes. This retrofit process occurs during the
normal Daily Update process.
- Simplified Scheduling
A single daily update process automatically initiates the weekly and monthly
processes when the week or month changes. This eliminates having to schedule
separate weekly and monthly processes. The date on which the automated
weekly and monthly processes occur is user defined.
- Optional Creation of CSV Files
The Daily process can optionally create CSV files for any MPWR-HR file at
any level of summarization.
- Data Integrity Facility
The Data Integrity Facility (DIF) processing prevents duplicate data from
entering the historical repository and forces abends if insufficient input
data is found. The DIF processing allows the user to determine how the data
is validated and allows for an unlimited number of systems.
- Simplified Testing and Debugging
HR provides two features that allow for simplified testing and debugging.
ABND4LT (Abend For Less Than) allows the user to control how many records
must be input to continue processing. MAXKEEP allows uses to limit the
number of input records during testing.
- User Exits
All user exits are in a single data set. These exits are optional and can
include SAS code to define organizational variables, user variables, etc.
